To help inform freshwater regulations for our region we asked three things of you: what are your favourite places for freshwater recreation, what water bodies do you think are remarkable, and whether you agree with the criteria proposed to determine which water bodies are remarkable.

Freshwater values

What do we value about freshwater? We all have an individual relationship to freshwater and value its unique qualities. Identifying these values is important as this provides councils with an understanding of what is important to our community and what needs to be protected or restored.

Long-term visions for freshwater

From 26 April – 24 May 2022 we engaged on a list of statements that could form visions for the freshwater management units (FMUs) in the Horizons Region. We asked if people agreed with those statements, and whether anything was missing or needed changing.

In 2022, we engaged on visions for all FMU’s bar Whanganui. In June-July 2023, we surveyed communities in the Whanganui FMU to find out if they agreed or disagreed with anything in the draft vision, or whether anything was missing or needed to be changed.
